We offer chemotherapy and infusion therapy that are provided by a team of professionals for you and your family. In addition to professional collaboration, we provide modern treatment with state of the art equipment. Our patients' comfort and well-being are our primary concern. Advanced Certified Oncology Advanced Practice Clinician and trained oncology nurses supervising all infusions and treatments Monday through Friday.
Advanced Practice Clinician initiates and provides Genetic counseling, survivorship care plans and follow up appointments. She works closely with your primary care physician to ensure communication and continuity of care.
Our Patient Advocate provides patient support, medication needs and assistance in finding financial resources.
"Total Patient Care" is the goal of our entire healthcare team. Our team's emphasis is on health education, your emotional support, problem solving, and goal setting with you and your family as active participants in your treatment plan.
The Oncology Team
Physician-Dr. James Commers - Dr. Commers received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine (UNMC). He completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at UNMC and completed a fellowship with the National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Treatment, Pediatric Oncology Branch, in Bethesda, MD. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is board certified by the American Board of Medical Oncology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Physician-Dr. Robert Warner -Dr. Warner has been dedicated to caring for patients in southwest Iowa since 1987. Board certified in internal medicine and partner at Heartland Oncology & Hematology, he graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the same university. He completed fellowships in oncology (the study of tumors) and hematology (the study of blood diseases) at the University of Massachusetts in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Physician-Dr. Sakeer Hussain -Dr. Hussain received his Doctor of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. He has worked at Heartland Oncology and Hematology since 2007. He is currently the President of the Iowa Oncology Society.
Advanced Practice Clinician-Colleen Ross, MSN, MHA, ARNP, AOCN -Colleen has 26 years in the care of oncology patients. She graduated from Clarkson College with her Family Nurse Practitioner certification. She is an Advanced Oncology Nurse Practitioner.
Trained Registered Nurses - Oncology nurses are on the front lines of chemotherapy delivery, providing education, side effect management, and emotional support to patients and their families.
Registered Dietitian - A registered dietitian provides nutritional guidance and helps identify diets that might maintain strength, improve tolerance to treatments, and decrease adverse side effects of treatment.
Pharmacist - The onsite pharmacy staff prepares chemotherapy and treatment related medications.
Patient Advocate-Judi Erickson, MS - Judi graduated from Drake University with her MS in Rehabilitation Administration. She has more than 25 years of experience in social work. She provides education regarding cancer issues, counseling and emotional support, helping to find community resources and support, and assistance with financial applications, medical forms, and advanced directives.

"Journeys" - A support group that provides a safe, supportive atmosphere to learn about and understand the grief process, to share grief experiences and to search for a renewed sense of meaning and purpose in life.
The six-week class meets on Wednesdays and starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.
Minimum of four participants. Meetings will be held in the Conference Center in the lower level of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. There is a $15 registration fee for supplies. However, no one will be turned away due to an inability to pay. For more information, contact Judi Erickson at (712)623-7288.
Cancer Survivor Support Supper -This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 5:30pm in the MCMH Conference Room. A cancer diagnosis brings questions, fears, and unknowns. This group provides an opportunity to discuss cancer related issues with people coping with the same type of situation in a relaxed environment over supper..
"A Time to Heal" -- A comprehensive program for all cancer survivors and caregivers -This 12-week program is held twice a year and covers topics such as resilience, coping with fear and anxiety, physical activity, nutrition, supplements and much more.
Look Good, Feel Better: Helping Women with Cancer A one-time workshop to help women with their skin and nail care, makeup application, tips on wig selection and wig care, scarves, turbans, hats and style tips. This workshop is offered four times a year and is sponsored by the MCMH Foundation.
All classes/groups are free of charge.
